In 1998 developing a child life program became an institutional objective which included national managerial recruitment. The child life practicum is a minimum of 100 hours of observation within the health care setting where qualified students gain practical knowledge about the child life profession. Our child life program is pleased to offer both child life practicum and child life internship opportunities. They provide emotional support for families and encourage optimum development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences, particularly those related to health care issues, treatment and hospitalization. Child life was instituted at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in 1994 resulting from the research seen widely in the medical community of the benefits of children’s coping with stressful experiences through play.
